What are the cabinets made of?

Soundroads cabinets are constructed from 3/4", 13-ply, void-free furniture-grade Baltic birch plywood. Each box is joined and glued using high-quality materials and standards to create a rock-solid foundation.

The exterior is covered in 25-mil thick, high-quality Tolex, typically found on premium, road-worthy musical gear. Our head cabinets feature a high-quality leather handle with an internal steel bracket for durability and high load capacity. For stability and shock resistance, we use extra-large, high-quality rubber feet. Additionally, all four corners are fitted with nickel-plated protectors.

The back door of the cabinet is composed of 3/8" thick, void-free mahogany plywood. This panel is sanded and finished in a clear lacquer with a heat shield integrated into the backside.

(Students of physics would love this) This specific build technique ensures that heat generated by power tubes during long periods of operation is safely managed and dissipated. A quad array of 6L6 GC power tubes generates significant heat that pools at the top of the chassis. We believe it is poor practice to use plastic Tolex near this heat source, as we have observed that adhesives in other designs can soften over time, causing the Tolex to peel from the back panels. Soundroads avoids Tolex for this specific application, utilizing a ventilated back design to safely manage the heat generated by the transformer and power tubes.
